I am so hungry I can eat a horse…..

Have you ever said that when you have felt hungry?
Over the last few months, I have been struggling my way through a GUYit. And many nights I have gone to bed wanting a late-night snack which had been a regular occurrence for me and remarkably so, I have remained true to my GUYit. You are probably asking, what is a GUYit? A Guyit is a guy that is on a diet.

I have a lot to be thankful for, my life, wife, kids, shelter, health, education, occupation, friends, toys, vehicles, and most importantly Jesus!! As I think about my lame struggles with being hungry at night, I try to think about those who really struggle to find their next meal to eat or the next warm place to sleep.  It makes me think about the poorest postal code in Canada… The Downtown Eastside of Vancouver. The DTES is a place that has many complex social issues such as addictions, homelessness, poverty, mental illness, etc. Since the real estate boom in the early 21st century, the DTES has grown in the higher displacement of people and homelessness. But most importantly the Vancouver Eastside needs Jesus!!

So what can our church do about it?

We can take a YOUTH missions team to the DOWNTOWN EASTSIDE VANCOUVER this July!

So why a youth missions trip?

  • Missions trips are a way for students and individuals to learn intentional service and have a learning experience that will help students put their faith into action.
  • It will give students an opportunity to live into their calling as a follower of Jesus.
  • To love our neighbors as ourselves across our province. We do this by meeting tangible needs and serving others.
  • It helps students see the image of God in EVERY person.
  • It helps students mature and grow in our faith together.
  • Mission trips help disciple students, develop leaders and serve communities.
  • Encourage students to live out the Great Commission, “to go into all the world (Vancouver) and preach the gospel to all creation.”

So now that I have your attention, on this missions trip we plan on serving with a few different ministries over the 6-day trip.

  • Serve at an inner-city Kids Club for 200-300 kids.
  • Receive hands-on training from a staff member from City reach Ministry
  • Serve at Club Freedom (serving food and talking to guests dealing with homelessness, addictions, mental health
  • Serve at Food for Families (sorting, packing, and distributing food hampers)
  • Distributing food/water to the Eastside of Vancouver.
