I’m taking my talents to South Beach…

If you follow sports, basketball, in particular, you will recognize this iconic statement that was made back in 2010. This quote caused much controversy, and it became very infamous quickly. It was a bold, overly confident statement.

I have been thinking a lot about the talents and giftings that God gives us to do great work for HIM. One of my favourite things in ministry is seeing church volunteers and leaders in their sweet spot and flourishing in ministry… ALL FOR HIS GLORY!

So, what is a talent?

  • A talent is something that you are instinctually born with that gives you unique skills and abilities.
  • A talent is set apart from knowledge, and it is not a learned behaviour, but can be strengthened and practiced so one can even get stronger.
  • When we discover the gifts and talents that God has given us, we can use these gifts and talents to glorify Him, and it helps us to experience FULL LIFE!
  • God wants us to live a Full Life, to feel whole and complete.
  • One way we can feel full and complete is to learn our talents and gifts for Jesus and use those gifts…for HIS GLORY!

What does the bible say about talents?

  • James 1:17 tells us that every gift is from God. We have all different talents and God-given gifts, but they are all important and can be used for God’s kingdom
  • Ephesians 2:10 “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”
  • 1 Corinthians 12:5-6 “There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work.”
  • 1 Peter 4:10-11 “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.  If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power forever and ever. Amen.”

So why am I writing about this?
The answer is 38.

This last week, Pastor Mike invited me to come and join him on stage to thank me for 5 years of ministry at CPC. I was surprised, honoured, and thankful for being able to serve in the same church for 5 years+. As I looked around the auditorium, I saw the faces of people who are so faithful to the life of our church. It was a humbling and honoring feeling to be able to work alongside such a talented and hard-working body. This Tuesday during our staff meeting, we were talking about our church, specifically about the number of people who volunteer in our church and the numbers are astounding…. In a good way!!!

38 stands for amazingly gifted and talented teens and adults who volunteer in our kid’s ministry!! This is praiseworthy!!! Thank you church for believing in our church kids and the kids in our community. Even though this blog is specifically about kids’ ministry, I encourage you to be a part of the church, get connected, get to serving and discover the gifts and talents that God has placed in you.

Here are some important dates and happenings over the next few months in regard to the kid’s ministry.

  • Sunday, September 11 – Children’s Ministry Volunteers Meeting (happening during the 2nd service)
  • Thursday, October 6 – Kids After School Club is starting.
  • Friday-Saturday, October 28-29 – 1st ever Fall Weekend Kids Camp @ CPC.

In Christ,
