Week 7... 

Leviticus - Chapter 23-27

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

  1. Share your experiences of reading Leviticus 23-27. What kind of things went through your mind and what kind of questions came up for you?
  2. What stood out to you from Sunday's message from Leviticus 23-27? In what way did Jesus speak to you personally?
  3. What is the greatest thing you observed about Jesus through Leviticus? What would one main takeaway from the book of Leviticus be for you? Is there any way you could turn it into action? In other words, what could you (or we) plan to do this coming week because of that main takeaway?
  4. Read Leviticus 26.9-13 together. a) What does this passage reveal about God's heart to bless His people? b) Why does God bless His people? c) How do Christian practices of giving (tithes, offerings, generosity) reflect God's heart and help to further His purposes?
  5. Christmas Party Discussion: a) We talked about feasts and festivals on Sunday! Does throwing a Christmas party or feast seem more like a spiritual activity to you than you previously had thought? Why? b) Make your final plans for your Christmas Outreach. Be a blessing and have fun!

  3. Read 1 Peter 2:1-12. In what ways is this similar to Leviticus chapter 21? In light of 1 Peter 2:1-12, how do you think God wants us to consider the rules for priests in chapter 21? What is God asking from us today?

Leviticus - Chapter 17-20

  1. Share your experiences of reading Leviticus 17-20. What kind of things went through your mind and what kind of questions came up for you?
  2. What stood out to you from Sunday's message from Leviticus 17-20? In what way did Jesus speak to you personally?
  3. Read Leviticus 18.1-5. What did Egypt and Canaan represent to God's people in Leviticus? In what ways do chapters 17-20 call God's people to lives of purity? (hint: think idolatry & sexual immorality). What could Egypt and Canaan represent for us and our lives today? Why does God call us to purity today?
  4. Read the story of John 8.1-11. a) What stands out to you about this story as you hear it today? b) How do we see both idolatry and sexual immorality linked in this story? (hint: what was all of Israel caught in their sin of?) c) How do you see the gospel in this story?
  5. Christmas Party Discussion: By now your group should have decided on some kind of Christmas outreach together. If not, make that decision today. We are encouraging a party because it is an opportunity to work together to build friendships with people who don't know Jesus yet. What do you need to do to be well prepared for this Christmas outreach? Discuss next steps.

Leviticus - Chapter 16

  1. Share your experiences of reading Leviticus 16. What kind of things went through your mind and what kind of questions came up for you?
  2. What stood out to you from Sunday’s message from Leviticus 16? In what way did Jesus speak to you personally?
  3. Read Leviticus 16.1-2. If you were Aaron or any of the subsequent High Priests, what kind of feelings might you have about entering the Most Holy Place? Now read Hebrews 10.19-25. What has changed since Leviticus 16 and why? How does this impact how we can approach God now? Read vs 23-25 again, what speaks to you from these verses and why?
  4. Read 2 Corinthians 5.17-20. In what ways does Leviticus 16 help you to appreciate this passage and also Jesus even more? What action is Jesus calling us to in vs 20? What could obedience to Jesus in this look like in your everyday life, and/or through this group together?

  2. What stood out to you from Sunday’s message from Leviticus 11-15? In what way did Jesus speak to you personally?
  3. Read Leviticus 11.44-45 and then 1 Peter 1.13-16. What are the obvious similarities between the two passages? What did Leviticus 11.44-45 mean to the people of God in the OT? What kind of messages live in 1 Peter 1.13-16 and how does it speak to us today?
  4. Read 1 Peter 2.9-12. In what ways do you see this passage connecting to (or springing from) the book of Leviticus? What words or concepts stand out to you from this 1 Peter passage? Why? What action is Jesus calling you toward through this passage?
  5. Christmas Party Discussion: Last week your group began brainstorming some kind of Christmas outreach. We are encouraging you to consider a party or at least something that involves food and helps to build friendships with people who don’t know Jesus yet. Continue brainstorming and narrow your ideas down to one you could work on together. What would the next steps be?

  1. *If you have some new people or are a Pop-Up Group, be sure to take some extra time tonight to get to know each other before beginning the discussion questions. Find a couple great ‘ice-breaker’ questions online?
  2. What has your experience with Leviticus been in the past? What kind of things went through your mind as you read Leviticus 1-7 last week?
  3. What stood out to you from Sunday’s message in Leviticus 1-7? In what way did Jesus speak to you personally?
  4. Read Leviticus 1.1-2 together. What is the significance of God speaking “from” the Tabernacle and of Him saying “when” you bring an offering? What might this mean for us today?
  5. Read the short story found in 2 Samuel 24.18-25. What is the significance of verse 24? What kind of attitudes and actions does this call us to today?
  6. Read Hebrews 13.15-16 together. How does this passage speak to the reality of offerings and sacrifices being part of how we worship Jesus today? Then brainstorm together answers to: What are some examples of what obedience to this scripture could look like?
