Whose Story Are You In? Discussion Guides
Week 1 - "We are Letters"
1. If today is the first time your group is meeting together, be sure to take time for introductions and getting to know one another. Why are you here? What are you hoping to grow in through our times together?
2. What stood out to you from Sunday’s message? In what ways did Jesus speak to you personally?
3. On Sunday it was said that “the story you live in is the story you live out.”
-
- A) What do you think some of the dominant storylines that people are living in in the Comox Valley are? What’s the evidence of that?
- B) do you ever feel the pull of cultural storylines in your thinking? In what ways?
- C) Do you ever feel hesitant to talk about Jesus with people who don’t know Him yet? Why might that be?
4. Our main text on Sunday was from 2 Corinthians chapter 3. Let’s consider how the gospel came to the city of Corinth in the first place and what we can learn from this.
Read 1 Corinthians 2.1-5
-
- What stands out to you from this passage?
- What kind of feelings did it seem Paul was battling as he shared Jesus with people who didn't know Him?
- In spite of not being well-polished (vs 1) and of his feelings (vs 3), the gospel did advance in Corinth. 1 Cor 2.1-5 seems to indicate that Paul focused on 2 things: 1) sharing the testimony (story!) of God (vs1) and 2) offering to pray for people (vs 4-5). Do you think this simple strategy could be one that any of us could grow in? What could be the next step be for you?
Read Acts 18.9-11, which is from the account of when the gospel came to Corinth.
-
- What speaks to you from this passage?
- What can we learn about Jesus in this passage?
5. Next week we will begin exploring some ideas for a Group Christmas Outreach to friends we have that don’t know Jesus yet.
