“I’ve been reading the Bible for most of my life, but I honestly don’t think I’ve ever read it cover to cover in one go - it’s an easy book to jump around in because there are so many books all bound into one. But last September, a group of friends and I started a reading program to finish the whole thing in one year, and we DID it!
It was the most life-changing experience, and I got to know WHO God is in a new and deep way as well as get a better grasp on the whole big story God is writing from Creation -> now -> and into eternity.
The Bible is a TRUE story about who God is; it gives light to feet so we can know which way to go; it is ALIVE and actively working and can point out where we’ve gone wrong or fallen into sin and gently point us back to Jesus; it’s encouraging, it’s challenging, it’s trustworthy and remains CONSTANT no matter what is going on in the world; it’s a reliable historical record, and it gives meaning and answers to many of life’s big questions.”
In the fall of 2025, I posted that blurb to my Facebook and Instagram accounts and had an overwhelming response from people who wanted to join me. We are currently more than halfway through the whole Bible (for the 2nd time) and about to start the New Testament again on October 1st, 2026! I have honestly not grown tired of waking up a little earlier every day to grab a coffee and crack open my Bible to learn more about the God who made me, loves me, and is in the business of making all things brand new. It’s not always easy, but it has become a priority for me, a habit and something that I genuinely look forward to each day. So when Pastor Mike preached in July about “The Power of Four” study, it was all I could do to keep my mouth shut for the whole sermon because I have experienced so much of what he was saying in my own life!
The “Power of Four” study by CBE looked at 10,000+ professing Christians and the correlation between how often people engaged with Scripture during the week compared to various behaviours, attitudes and measures of spiritual life. The biggest takeaway was that reading the Bible 0-1 days/week made little measurable difference in one’s life; 2-3 days/week was still little to inconsistent difference, and yet 4+ days/week gave a large jump in positive associations with spiritual growth, and I can attest to that in my own life in SO many ways. Because of the way “The Bible Recap” is laid out, I’ve learned to look for the character of God in Scripture for the past 2+ years, and it has given me overwhelming amounts of peace. Now, when situations arise in my life, I’m more likely to trust God, I pray more quickly, and I’m just genuinely peaceful knowing that God is in control and I can trust him because I know (that I know) that He is gracious, merciful, kind, and abounding in steadfast love. I’m also encouraged by the faith and testimonies of the women I am reading with as they share in the comments section how God has been speaking to them through each day's scripture reading too.
So I guess this is my invitation to YOU, Comox Pentecostal Church! Wanna read the Bible together as a church family starting October 1st, 2026?! If you’re interested or have questions, shoot me an email and/or watch the ebulletin in September for the link to the Bible App group.
Hope you join us and happy reading!
