The love Laura and I have has plateaued, but I'm ok with that.

Can you imagine?
Not a chance.

We know that that kind of thinking only means trouble for a marriage, and the same goes for our relationship with Jesus.

Both the Old Testament and New Testament use marriage as an illustration of the kind of love, connection and relationship between God and His people. Your faith in Jesus is meant to be marked with a love that is alive and increasing.

If you and I are honest, we'd acknowledge that just like in human relationships, there are also times in our walk with God that we find our love for Him has faded, or just become mechanical, predictable and kind of empty. This is why we've given so much focus to our "First Love" series to begin this year. This is also why the number 1 prayer priority for our church is:

1. Vibrant Relationships with Jesus

Beginning this week, we will consider one of our five prayer priorities each week in Dearly Beloved so that we can allow these to take the place and precedence in our prayer lives this year that they deserve.

This year, let's pray regularly for our relationship with Jesus to become more meaningful.

Psalm 37.4 calls us to "Delight yourself in the Lord." I want to remind you that delight is not just a response to something great that has happened; delight is a choice. Whenever you find your delight in God waning for some reason, remember this diagram:

If you want to see your feelings for God develop if you want to 'delight in the Lord' -- invest extra into your thinking about God and your doing with God and for God. This isn't about faking our feelings, this is about leading ourselves to become fully engaged with God.

1 John 4.19 says, "We love because He first loved us."

A great place to start today is by reminding your soul that Jesus loves you, deeply. Even when you have been at your weakest and worst, He died for you (Romans 5:8). You are to die for. Talk about being loved!
