Dearly Beloved,
WHAT ON EARTH Are We Doing Here?
It's an essential question! For every person and every organization, especially churches.
And we shouldn't just conjure up our own answers to this question or our own sense of purpose. We need to hear God's answer for us.
On Sundays this month we are looking to Jesus together to see how his life, teaching, and example provides CPC with purpose. Our collective purpose is best articulated by our mission statement, which is bringing the message and ministry of Jesus into everyday life.
The Comox Valley is presently a lot like some of the ancient cities that the gospel first went to, like Thessalonica, where although there were some with Jewish backgrounds and some that had respect for the scriptures, most were pagan. Here it would be true to say that SOME people have a Christian background or awareness, and SOME people have a bit of awareness of the Bible, but MOST people around you and I do not believe in one true God or that the Bible has any relevance to their life or authority over it.
So, how did the gospel of Jesus actually change lost lives in that part of the world then?
5 km/h.
If 5 km/h makes no sense to you at all, you may need to catch last Sunday's message here.
Through the scriptures we looked at in Thessalonians and in Matthew 4, we saw that Jesus' best way to reach people and to disciple people is in relationship. That means that the best way for you and I to reach people here in the Comox Valley with the love and truth of Jesus is in and through friendship.
-
Who is someone you see regularly that doesn't know Jesus yet that you could build a friendship with? What could you do this coming week to grow that friendship?
-
Do you have some people you could grow in your faith with this Fall? Could we help connect you to one of our Fall small groups that will be running alongside our main teaching series in Oct/Nov? If so, let us know.
Thank you for being such wonderful people. You reflect the love and welcome of Jesus in so many ways. Let's connect and grow this Fall!
Mike
PS - On Sunday we also introduced you to Brett & Natalie Donald, who have recently moved to Vancouver Island to plant a church in one of the most dark and needy communities. Not only do they do "5 km/h" so well, as evidenced in their last church plant, but we have an opportunity to support them and this new initiative in prayer, encouragement, and giving.
